HOOK SIN TONG CHARITY ASSOCIATION

About Us

In 1902, Victoria Zhongshan Hook Sin Tong was established and eleven Zhongshan native merchants in Victoria campaigned to fund raise throughout the Province of B.C. to buy a piece of land.

In August 1904, on behalf of Hook Sin Tong, Lee Kim Chow, who was also known as Lee Dye, owner of Wah Yuen Company, bought a piece of land for $3,500 to build a wooden house as a temporary meeting hall for Hook Sin Tong.

In 1912, after demolition of the wooden house, Hook Sin Tong hired an architect named Elwood Watkins to design the existing three story brick building that stands today. This building was constructed by Parfitt Brother Company and was completed in March 2nd, 1913.

In 2012, under the leadership of Alan Lowe, architect and president of Hook Sin Tong, this one hundred year old brick building was gutted, rebuilt, and upgraded from top to bottom.

Hook Sin Tong has monthly meetings set for the last Sunday of every month at 1:00 pm. There is no meeting for the month of July & August.
